Prison video link (PVL)
Defence conferences and hearings by secure HMPPS link — saves the prison visit entirely, with a dialect-matched interpreter on the line.
Prison video link is now the default for many defence conferences — and one of the least forgiving settings for interpreting: compressed audio, strict time slots, no room for a dialect mismatch. This practice interprets regularly by PVL, including Sudanese Arabic conferences at HMP establishments.

- Send the charge sheet or case summary in advance; terminology is prepared before the link opens
- Confirm at booking whether the establishment allows the interpreter to join remotely
